Every practice has their own internal policies most are similar to below, we have created a guideline to help.


  • Policy for new patients
  • Policy for aggression and threatening behaviour from patients
  • Chaperone policy – GP indemnity company will advise and provide posters for awareness
  • Consent policy: vaccinations, larc, map etc

  • Complaints policy – its good practice to have somewhere patients can give feedback or issue the practice with a complaint. Therefore having such documents on your website or available in a central place at your practice for patients convenience.
  • GDPR policy : GDPR was introduced in May 2018 – practices must demonstrate they are compliant and meeting requirements.
  • Computer Hardware and software policy:
  • Backup – if you don’t use external company who is responsible for manual backups
  • Hardware and software maintenance and upkeep
  • Disaster Recovery plan
  • Critical incidents or Events – Policy on who records and reports such events. A computerised record to record all events that need to addressed.
  • Emergency Equipment /Medicine Policy: who is responsible for calibration and upkeep of medicine expiry dates and oxygen ordering.
  • Fridge & vaccine storage policy – accountability to record fridge at correct temperature
  • Communications policy and consent from patients to text or email
